Marvin W. Peekenschneider

Funeral services for Marvin Peekenschneider, 78, of Cherokee, formerly of Aurelia, were Friday, Sept. 19 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee, with Pastor Richard Arndt officiating.

Burial was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Aurelia, with Military Honors by the Grashoff-McManus American Legion Post #390 of Aurelia.

Marvin Willis Peekenschneider was born March 12, 1930, the son of Hugo and Emily (Souls) Peekenschneider at Alta. He attended country school for seven years, and graduated from the Aurelia High School in 1949. He served in the Marine Corps from 1950 to 1953. On March 2, 1954 Marvin married Doris Knudsen in Correctionville. He farmed south of Aurelia from 1954 to 1958, then worked construction in Correctionville, for Simonsen Manufacturing in Quimby, for Christensen Brothers Construction in Cherokee, and for Cherokee County as a maintainer operator from 1962 till his retirement in June of 1992. Marvin enjoyed reading, playing cards, flowers and gardening and operating his mowing service.

Marvin died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2008 at his home in Cherokee.

Preceding Marvin in death were his parents, one daughter, JoAnn Peekenschneider, and one brother, Orville Peekenschneider.

Survivors include his wife Doris of Cherokee, one son, Rodney and his wife Bonnie Peekenschneider of Lake Park, four daughters, Vicki and her husband Corry Gorden of Ida Grove, Mary Loucks and her fiancé Jerry Keleher of Sioux City, Heidi Peekenschneider of Cherokee, and Tia McKenzie of Remsen. Also surviving are ten grandchildren, Mitch and his wife Amy Loucks of Cherokee, Madison Loucks and Nikki Loucks of Sioux City, Calvin Thacker of LaBelle, Fla., Tyler Peekenschneider of Lake Park, Kassandra Karley, Cody and Brice Gorden all of Ida Grove, and Logan and Lucas McKenzie of Aurelia, and three great-grandchildren, MaKaelyn and Tayven Glienke and Daenon Loucks, one sister, Marion and her husband Russell Stamp of Webster City, and nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
