Gladys M. Bork, 86, of Marcus died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2008, at Heartland Care Center in Marcus following a brief illness.

Services will be 5 p.m. today at Peace Lutheran Church in Marcus, with the Rev. James Gruber officiating. Burial will be in Marcus Amherst Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 p.m. until service time today at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee, Iowa. Gladys was born Dec. 28, 1921, in O'Brien County, Iowa, to Charlie A. and Hattie (Ottzen) Meyer. She was baptized on Jan. 22, 1922. On March 10, 1935, she was confirmed at St. Mark's Church by the Rev. E.L. Wittkopp. She attended Cleghorn (Iowa) High School and graduated in 1938.

She married Dale Bork on March 25, 1945 at Trinity Lutheran Church south of Marcus. They were married by the Rev. E.L. Wittkopp. Shortly after their marriage, they joined Peace Lutheran Church in Marcus. They lived on a farm north of Cleghorn, Iowa, and in 1962, they moved to their home southeast of Marcus. Dale preceded her in death on March 3, 1994.

She was a member of Peace Ladies Aid and the Lutheran Women's Missionary League in which she held various offices. She taught Sunday School for many years. She worked in the Braille workshop at Peace Lutheran Church since its beginning. She enjoyed gardening, handiwork and playing pinochle with her friends at Heartland Care Center this past year. She enjoyed the staff at the care center and loved the visits and phone calls from her family.

She is survived by a daughter and her husband, Jean and Jim Scharff of Ankeny, Iowa, and their children, Jennifer Scharff, Jamie and her husband, Joel Martin; a son and his wife, Ron and Marilyn Bork of Seward, Neb., and their children, Kristin Bork, Allison and her husband, Nathan Domsch and their children, Ethan and Elissa Domsch; a daughter and her husband, Linda and Ed Dunklau of Macomb, Mich., and their children, Christi and her husband, Evan Gaertner and their children, Henry and Lucas Gaertner, Sarah and her husband, Eric Schaefer; a son and his wife, Neal and Marie Bork of Marcus and their children, Christian Bork and his wife, Amy and their children, Kennedy and Kannon, Courtney and her husband, Mark Clark; two brothers, Alvin Meyer of Spencer, Iowa, and Vernon Meyer and his wife, Leola of Paullina, Iowa; and a sister, Erma Woltman of Cherokee, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dale; a brother, Elmer Meyer in World War II; and a grandson, Jonathon Scharff in 1984.
