Darlene J. Klockgether, 79, of Cherokee, passed away June 16, 2008 at the Cherokee Villa Nursing & Rehab Center, following a short illness.

Funeral services were held Friday, June 20, at 10:30 a.m. at the Faith in Christ Fellowship in Cherokee. Pastor Pinky Person and Pastor Ted Greaves officiated. Burial was in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee. On line condolences may be sent to www.boothbyfuneral.com.

Darlene Herpst was born Oct. 30, 1928 at Sioux Rapids, to William and Audrey (Pennel) Herpst. She was married to Clarence Geary Sr. on Feb. 15, 1947 at Jackson, Minn, and was later married to George Klockgether on April 25, 1964 in Cherokee.

Darlene worked at Gregg's Hilltop Nursing Home as a nurse's aide. She lived in Cherokee since 1960, and prior to that lived in Washta. She was a member of the Faith in Christ Fellowship, and her Church was an important part of her life. She also enjoyed animals, baking and playing cards

Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Dale Wayne Klockgether in 1965; two brothers, Don and Tom Freese and one sister, Janice Freese.

She is survived by six children: Clarence "Skip" Geary Jr. of Frisco, Texas; Darrell "Cork" Geary of Sioux City; Raymond Geary of Oceano, Calif.; Gail Geary Rowland of Aurelia; Joy Draisey of Aurelia; and Holly Bakker and her husband Dave of Cherokee; 11 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; three brothers and two sisters: Larry Freese of Washington, Iowa; Calvin Freese of Solon; Kenny Freese of Rockford, Ill.; Jaree Lewis of Wheatland, Wyo.; and Joan Auen of Sac City.
