Genevieve B. Steig, 89 of Iowa City, died Wednesday, April 16, 2008, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. No services are planned. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City provided cremation services.

Genevieve Bainbridge (Woltman) Steig was born April 12, 1919, in Pierson, the daughter of Albert and Amy (Bainbridge) Woltman. She was a 1937 graduate of Brooke High School in Peterson. On July 2, 1938, she was united in marriage to George Steig. The couple lived many years in Cherokee, where she managed the department store of Hawley Allison Company for over thirty-five years.

Genevieve was preceded in death by her parents, son, Cary Steig, grandson Jeff Steig and brother Wayne Woltman.

Her family includes her husband, George; son and his wife, Bill and Alyce Steig of Iowa City; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Steig of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren, Tal Steig and his wife, Anita of Sutherland, Amy Steig of Denver, Colo., Aja Bouska and her husband, Martin of Brooklyn Park, Minn., and Ashley Steig of Brooklyn Park, Minn.; great-grandchildren, Seth, Caleb, Simone, Kenya, and Elijah Steig; sister, Joyce Pyle of Cherokee; brother, Gary Woltman of Arnolds Park.
