Devere L. "Corky" Anderson, 62, of Cherokee died Thursday Jan. 25, 2007, at Cherokee Villa Nursing and Rehab Center.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Greenwood Funeral Home in Cherokee, with the Rev. Ray Hampton officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Cherokee. Visitation will be noon to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Online condolences may be left at www.greenwoodfuneral.com.

Corky was born Feb. 11, 1944, in Cherokee to Howard and Georgia (Coe) Anderson. He attended school in Cherokee, graduating from Washington High School in 1963. He attended Iowa State University in Ames from 1963 to 1964.

He married Patricia Ferrin in 1965. They divorced in 1975. Corky attended Iowa Lakes Community College in Estherville, Iowa, and later the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. In 1982, he married Nancy D. George. They divorced in 1988.

Corky was a well known figure in Cherokee, usually in his yellow T-shirt and white shorts, often with a flowing white beard. He did many kind deeds for neighbors and friends and loved to visit with people.

Survivors include a son, Joseph Anderson of Correctionville, Iowa; an uncle, Donald Johnson of Cherokee; and cousins, Carol and Marvin Peterson, Carl and Anita Anderson, Larry and Sue Anderson, Dy Anne Broveak and Kathy Sexton.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Micah on Jan. 7, 1970.
