Robert "Bob" A. Morton, 83, of Cherokee, died on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007, at 10:54 p.m.
Services were held on January 17 at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Phil Doocy officiated, along with his wife Jane, from Bancroft. Visitation was on Tuesday from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. with the family present from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Bob was born on Christmas Day, 1923, in Larrabee, to Fay "Pap" Morton & Helen Morton. He grew up in the Larrabee and Meriden areas with his seven siblings, Fred, Jim, Roy, Velda, Donna, Mary Lou and Norman. Bob entered the U.S. Navy, serving during WW II.
Shortly after returning home from The South Pacific, he wed Betty Margaret Johnson on April 30, 1949. Together they built a home and raised two sons, Frank & Dennis. Bob worked nearly his entire life as a carpenter and bricklayer. On any given day, you are likely to pass by or enter in and out of a job of his.
Although "retired" for many years,he was never really retired, woodworking up until only a short time ago. He and Betty enjoyed fishing and the occasional drive to Sloan for some video poker.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, son Dennis and siblings, Fred, Jim, Velda and LeRoy.
He is survived by his wife Betty of Cherokee; son Frank of Omaha, Nebraska; daughter-in-law Jan Morton and granddaughter Sydney of Cherokee; grandchildren Paul, Kyle & Sanny of Puyallup, Wash.; sister Donna Morrow of Larrabee; sister Mary Lou and her husband Jack Meller of Solon Springs, Wis.; brother Norman Morton of Brazil, Ind.; sister-in-law Shirley Morton of Boise, Idaho; step family Amy and Larry Watts and children of Cherokee.
Also surviving are many nieces and nephews, too numerous to list, but all held a special place in Bob's heart.
