This community was saddened to learn of the death of Clariss Anderson, 25, who sustained fatal injuries in a car-truck accident Fri.Morning, Dec.16, 1977. The accident happened west of Manson , when the car in which she was riding struck a slippery spot in the road, spun around and was struck broadside by a west- bound semi-truck. Miss Anderson and Mrs. Sally J Kooker of Storm Lake , driver of the car, were enroute to Ft. Dodge for an A.E.A. staff meeting when the accident happened. Mrs. Kooker was taken to Ft. Dodge, then transferred to Des Moines, where she is listed in critical condition. The truck driver was not injured.
Funeral services for Miss Anderson were held Monday from Congregational United Church of Christ in Aurelia, with Rev. John Prikett officiating. Vocalists were Mr. and Mrs. Archie Mackay Jr.Interment with Wharton Funeral Home in charge of arrangements was in the family plot at Afton Township Cemetery. Casket bearers ; Kenneth Brandt, Fred Harder, Raymond Kerns, Orlyn Webb, James Kerns and Alfred Kerns.
Clariss Jane Anderson, daughter of Walter and Mildred (Kerns, Fraser) Anderson was born Dec. 5, 1952. She was baptised in the Congregational United Church of Christ in Aurelia, and was confirmed in the same church in Apr., 1963, and later served as a Sunday School Teacher untill she went to college. She graduated from Aurelia High School in 1971. She attended Iowa State University, Ames and graduated in May, 1975 with a degree in Special Education.
Following Graduation from the University , Clariss was employed at the State Hospital in Woodward until last July when she accepted employment with the Arrowhead Area Education Agency of Ft. Dodge. Her classes were held in rooms at St. Marks Luthern Church, in Storm Lake, and her "Special" pre-school age children had various handicaps.
Miss Anderson is survived by her Mother, Mrs. Mildred Anderson and her Brother and Sister-in-law, Dr, and Mrs. Alex Fraser and nephew and niece, Steven and Sarah Fraser, of Escondido, Calif. Her father, Walter Anderson preceded her in death.
Members of the Aurelia High School Class of 1971 attended the services in a group, as did several of her college classmates. A group of over 25 from the Arrow-Head Area Education Agenncy from Ft. Dodge attended as well.
Lunch was served at the Church following the service, by the Womans Fellow-ship.
