ANDERSON, OBANNON, SMITH, MCFARLAND, MCCORMICK

Mrs. Hallie Marie (O'Bannon) Anderson, daughter of John and Alice O'Bannon, was born July 3, 1898, at Pleasant Green, Mo. and passed away at the Bates Hospital in Aurelia Ia. , about 1:30 a.m., Wed. May 5, 1943, being 44 years, 10 months and 1 day old.At the age of 10 she came to Iowa, locating in Peterson, where she grew up, graduating from the high school there, after which she attended the State Teachers College at Cedar Falls Ia.
She taught school in Buena Vista and Cherokee Counties. During the flu epidemic in 1918 she left her school work to do sick-nursing both in hospitals and private homes.
On July 3 , 1919 she was united in marriage to Guy Anderson of Afton Township. After their marriage they settled on a farm in that vicinity.
To this union five children were born; Marie June (Mrs. Ray Smith); of Cherokee; John Robert serving in the U.S. Marines; Marian Helen; Guy Willard; and Avis Ada living at home.
When a girl Mrs. Anderson united with the Methodist Church in Cherokee. For a number of years she an active part in the Farm Bureau work in the County, serving for a while as chairman of the womans branch of the work taking charge of 4-H work. She was also president of the Afton Township Cemetery association until ill health made it necesary to give up her community services.
For the last 6 years she has been in failing
heath and for the past 15 weeks she has been a patient at the Bates Hospital in Aurelia.
She bore her sickness without complaint and was cheerful in spite of her suffering.
She leaves to mourn her husband and 5 children, Father and Mother and 5 brothers and sisters. They are Adam of Waykon Minn., Mrs, Grace McFarland of Tarkio Mo. Mrs. Guy McCormick; of Baldwin Park Calif.; Russell of Alta Ia. and Ewing serving in the armed forces, also 1 grand-daughter, Phyllis Smith, besided many friends and neighbors. Her family of couse came first in all her planning, but when heath permitted she found time to befriend and help those about her. and her passing leaves a gap, not only to family circle, but also in the community life. She will be grately missed. She was an She was an affectionate wife and mother and a loyal friend.
Funeral services were held Fri. at 2:00 p.m. in the Cherokee Methodist Church with Rev. E. Stanworth in charge. Mrs. Arthur Phipps, Mrs. Roy Matzdorff with Mrs. O.C. Wadell as organist sang "Going Home", "No Night THere", " Going down the Valley". Burial was in Afton Township Cemetery.
