LeRoy D. Smith, son of William and Catherine Smith, was born Oct. 17, 1879, in Liberty Township, Cherokee County Ia., and died Mar. 15, 1944 at his home in Larabee, Ia. after an illness of 3 months.
With the exception of about 5 years the deceased lived his entire life in or around Cherokee County.
In 1904 he was united in marriage to Clara Mae Scott of Afton Township and to this union 6 children were born. Emmett I. of Cherokee; Mrs. Mildred Stanley of Danville, Ind. Lillian M. of Larabee; Roma L. of Denver , Colo., and John I Smith in the Armed Services. One son, Clifford died in infancy.
Besides the wife and 5 children he is survived by 5 grand-children and 2 sisters, Mre. C.H. Funston of Cherokee; Mrs. Claude Moling O Salem Ore., and 2 brothers, William and John, also of Salem.
Funeral services were held at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee with Rev C.H. Thompson officiating. Internment was in Afton Township Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Geo. Cochrane, C.W. Wilcoxin, Edwin Beck, George Nitz, Verne Alexander and Russell Parks.
