Mrs. E. D. Cannon, mother of Mrs. Fred Blake of Afton township died Wednesday evening at her home near Mason City. The body will be brought to Cherokee, Friday and funeral services will be held at the Blake home Saturday afternoon at one o'clock. Burial will be made in the Afton Cemetery.

She was the daughter of Buell and Fannie Burdick Oviatt, and was born in Alfred Centre, New York, May 28, 1831 and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. May Butts, of Plymouth, Iowa, June 7, 1933, at the age of 102 years and 12 days. She was the eldest of a family of ten children. When seven years of age the family moved to Pennsylvania. Six years later her father felt the call of the West and brought his family to Wisconsin. Here in 1849 she was married to Ephriam D. Cannon. In June 1867, Mr and Mrs. Cannon came to Iowa, landing in Cherokee County, living first on a homestead in Cherokee township and a few years later moved to their farm in Minnesota, where Mr. Cannon passed away October 19, 1900. From that time on Mrs. Cannon lived among her children. She was the mother of 13. Three passed away in their infancy and Mrs. Fannie Furgason in 1922, and Dr. Charles M. Cannon in 1923. There left to revere the memory are Fred F. Cannon, Roosevelt, Minnesota, Mrs. Allie Coleman of National City, California; Mrs. May Butts, Mrs. L. Garluck Barnes, and Mrs. Florence Smith of Plymouth, Iowa: Clinton J. Cannon and Mrs. Rose Goodrich of Cherokee. Also, twenty-nine grandchildren and several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; a half sister, Mrs. Emma Gilbert of Milton Junction, Wisconsin, survives her at the age of 85 years. Mrs. Cannon's parents were (Seventh Day) Baptists, but when coming west she united with the M. E. Church. Hers was an enduring faith abided with her until death.
