Funeral services for Mabel A. Webb, 91, of Aurelia, formerly of Cherokee, will be 10:30 A.M. Friday, December 9, 2005, at the First United Methodist Church in Aurelia with Pastor Harold Werley officiating. Pastor Ron Johannsen of Silver Creek Methodist Church in Galva will also officiate. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery at Sac City. Visitation will be Thursday from 2:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., with the family being present from 6:00 to 8:00, at the Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia. A memorial fund has been established.

Mabel died Monday, December 5, 2005, at the Sioux Valley Regional Medical Center in Cherokee, Iowa.

Mabel Anna Ellwanger was born September 10, 1914, the daughter of Fred and Carrie (Sauter) Ellwanger on the family farm at rural Lake View, Iowa. She graduated from the Lakeview High School. On December 19, 1933 Mabel married Forrest Webb. They farmed in the Galva area. Forrest died December 25, 1956. Mabel moved to Cherokee in the 60’s where she worked for more than 20 years at the Mental Health Institute. She was a resident at the Beck in Cherokee for one year, and had made her home at the Sunset Knoll Retirement Home in Aurelia for the last 15 months.

Mabel enjoyed traveling; she visited all the states except Hawaii. She loved her family and made efforts to visit her children as often as possible. She enjoyed baking cookies, crocheting afghans for her family, and she was an avid reader of stories of people and history of Iowa.

Preceding Mabel in death were her parents, her husband Forrest, one son, Duane Webb, two brothers, Fred and Everett Ellwanger, and one sister, Evelyn Powell.

Survivors include her children, Forrest Webb, Jr., of Gulf Breeze, FL, Donald and his wife Frances Webb of New Orleans, LA, Sandra and her husband Walter Shepherd of New Orleans, LA, Orlyn and his wife Nancy Webb of Aurelia, IA, daughter-in-law Gail and her husband Martin Rummel of Wabeno, WI, 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, four sisters, Alice and her husband Willard Garrels of Newell, IA, Lucille Schultz of Buffalo, MN, June Bowers of Storm Lake, IA, and Joyce and her husband Tom Patton of Perry, IA, and many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
