LESTER L. HIEMSTRA

Funeral services for Lester Hiemstra, 81, of Aurelia, will be 10:30 A.M. Monday, December 13, 2004, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Aurelia, with Pastor Larry Lemke officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Aurelia. Visitation will be Sunday from 1:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., with the family being present from 1:30 to 3:00 and 6:30 to 8:00, at the Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia.

Lester died Friday, December 10, 2004, at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Lester Laverne Hiemstra was born November 1, 1923, the son of Garrett and Pearl (Blacksten) Hiemstra at Kingsley, Iowa. As a child and young adult he lived on farms south of LeMars with his parents. Lester graduated from the Union Township Consolidated High School in 1941. On August 26, 1951, Lester married Frances Roeber in Wakefield, Nebraska. He farmed for 63 years on farms at Kingsley, Marcus, and Aurelia. He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, serving on the Church Council, and was on the board of directors for Production Credit Association, Cherokee County, from 1970 to 1982. Lester enjoyed golfing, fishing, dancing, and playing cards.

Preceding Lester in death were his parents, two brothers, Orville and Orlo Hiemstra, and one sister-in-law, Kyeth Hiemstra.

Survivors include his wife Frances of Aurelia, four children, Diane and her husband Joseph Weathers of Moville, IA, Joan and her husband Grant Gustafson of Clemmons, North Carolina, Craig and his wife Ann Hiemstra of Clive, IA, and Jill and her husband Jared Rapp of Moville, IA. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Ryan and his wife Amanda Weathers, Jason and his wife Tracy Weathers, Andrew and his wife Elizabeth Weathers, Trent Gustafson, Shanna Gustafson, Gwen Gustafson, Kristin Hiemstra, Evan Hiemstra, and Austin Rapp, one great-grandson, Logan Weathers, one brother, Harley and his wife Laverne Hiemstra of Kingsley, two sisters-in-law, Keith Hiemstra of Letcher, SD, and Ethel Weiss of Spirit Lake, IA, and other relatives and friends.
