MURLAN 'OLE' HAIGHT

Funeral services for Murlan Haight, 75, of Aurelia, IA, will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday, October 23, 2004, at the First United Methodist Church in Aurelia, with Pastor Jack Weida officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Aurelia. Visitation will be Friday from 2:00 to 8:00 P.M., with the family being present from 5:00 to 8:00, at the Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia. A memorial fund has been established.

Murlan died Wednesday, October 20, 2004, at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Murlan Glenn Haight was born November 13, 1928, the son of Howard and Elsie (Corrington) Haight, in Cherokee, Iowa. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from the Aurelia High School in 1946, then attended Iowa State University and served in the Army National Guard. Murlan married Harriett Ellen Ohlson on December 23, 1950, at the Methodist Church in Aurelia. The couple farmed in Buena Vista County their entire career and Murlan also worked for Wilson Foods Corporation for 23 years in Cherokee. Murlan was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Aurelia. His hobbies revolved around the family farm which has been in the family since 1869 and family activities. He was also an avid Cubs fan.

Preceding Murlan in death were his parents, his loving wife Harriett on November 4, 1999, infant daughter Marcia in 1951, two sons, Scott in 1983 and infant Richard in 1952, a brother W. Henry Haight, and a sister, Elsie Mae Haight.

Survivors include three children, Doug and his wife Becky Haight of Quincy, IL, Grant and his wife Gail Haight of Sioux City, and Deborah and her husband Jim Hinkeldey of Alta. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Adam, Eric, and Emily Haight, Michael and Katie Haight, and Russell, Alan, and Holly Hinkeldey, and three sisters, Jeanne Farquhar, of Villa Park, IL, Rose Ella Subbert of Dodge Center, MN, and Alice Diischer of Alta, IA, and other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Adam Haight, Eric Haight, Russell Hinkeldey, Michael Haight, and Alan Hinkeldey, and his nephew, Clayton Diischer.
