EDWIN W. ENGDAHL

Funeral services for Edwin W. Engdahl, 85, of Aurelia, will be 10:30 A.M. Monday, September 13, 2004, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee, with Pastor Jim Steen officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 1:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., with the family being present from 3:00 to 5:00, at the Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia. A memorial fund has been established.

Ed died Thursday, September 9, 2004, at the Cherokee Villa in Cherokee, Iowa.

Edwin William Engdahl was born December 25, 1918, the son of Conrad and Helena Augusta (Peterson) Engdahl near Aurelia, Iowa. He attended school in Aurelia. On April 18, 1943 Ed married Hetty Ruth Webster in the First Presbyterian Church in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He served in the Army during WWII, serving first with the cavalry division, then later as a diesel mechanic with the armored division. Ed worked as a mechanic for many years, owning his own business in Aurelia. His life was fixing cars. He enjoyed helping people, and making copper jewelry, bird houses, and plant stands. He was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church and the Grashoff-McManus American Legion Post #390 of Aurelia.

Preceding Edwin in death were his parents, one son, Paul William Engdahl, one brother, Donald Engdahl, one sister, Bertha Engdahl, and one brother-in-law, Harry Lindgren.

Survivors include his wife Hetty of Aurelia, three children, Peggy Sue Leifer and friend Jim Sak of Chicago, IL, David Conrad Engdahl and friend Betty Wilson of North Mankato, MN, and Nancy Ann and her husband Tom Jarratt of Aurelia, and three grandchildren, Matthew Allen Samsel, Jamie Elizabeth Samsel, and Aaron Paul Samsel. Also surviving are two brothers, Albert and his wife Leona Engdahl and Kenneth and his wife Jeannie Engdahl all of Aurelia, one sister, Phyllis Lindgren of Meriden, several nieces and nephews, and many friends.
