William S. Carson

CHEROKEE, Iowa -- William Stanford Carson, 70, of Colorado Springs, Colo., formerly of Cherokee, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2005, in Colorado Springs.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cherokee, with the Rev. Jim Steen officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, with military rites. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee.

Bill was born March 10, 1935, in Pilger, Neb., to Wayne and Esther (Schneider) Carson. He was married to Patricia Schallau on May 25, 1968, in Cherokee.

He lived a number of lives in his 70 years on this earth. He was a grocery store manager in Cherokee for 17 years, spent 11 years in the Army National Guard and the last 20 years as a paramedic in Colorado Springs and Cripple Creek, Colo. He also spent years as a farmer and store owner.

He was a 32nd Degree Shriner of the Abu Bekr Shrine Temple in Sioux City, a member of the Toastmasters, served on the Cherokee Rodeo board and a member of First Lutheran Church in Colorado Springs.

Along with pride in his work, he was most proud of his family. He was happiest when surrounded by family. His favorite past time activities included, golfing, hunting, fishing, antique car shows, collecting marbles and sharing coffee and pancakes with his beloved wife. As a guiding and loving man, the richness of his life will live on for generations. He was dedicated to saving lives in life and in death.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Patricia Schallau Carson; five children, Dan (Cindy) Carson of Fairview, Texas, Diane Mesmer of Denver, Colo., Debbie Carson of Denver, Kim Pursley of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Paula (Sara Thomsen) Pedersen of Duluth, Minn.; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; his mother, Esther Carson of Cherokee; a sister, Leila (Dale) Wolfe and family of Cherokee; a brother, Robert (Aleene) Carson and family of Waco, Texas; and numerous friends, colleagues and patients whose lives he touched over the years.

He was preceded in death by his father, Wayne Carson; and a grandson, Garrett Carson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Memorial Fund, First Lutheran Church, 1515 Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO. or to Southwest Teller EMS, Box 826, Cripple Creek, CO. 80813.

In the words of his supervisor at Cripple Creek EMS, "Thanks for the good times Bill." You will be missed.
