CHEROKEE, Iowa -- Gary Lee Fuhrman, 66, of Cherokee passed away Monday, July 24, 2006, at his home in Cherokee.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, with Pastor Stephen Watts officiating. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Gary was born March 27, 1940, in Cherokee, the son of Walter and Doreen (Witcombe) Fuhrman. He graduated from Cherokee Public Schools in 1958.

He married Kathy Meadows on Nov. 19, 1961. Three children were born to this marriage: Tim, Tori and Melissa. He married Joleen Hoops on Jan. 11, 1973. Two sons were born to this marriage: Jeff and Jason.

Gary was a plumber by profession, beginning with his career working for Karlson Plumbing. In 1967, he started his own business, Fuhrman Plumbing and Heating, which he continued to operate until his sudden death. He also owned and operated a second business, Jo/Dee Striping, doing parking lot striping for several businesses.

He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Tim and Melody Fuhrman of Quimby, Iowa, and grandchildren Tara, Kyle, Chris, Alex, Tristan and Trinity; a daughter, Tori Wasden of Chico, Calif., and grandchildren Justin, Taylor and Bailey; a daughter, Melissa Barnes and her friend, Bill, of Correctionville, Iowa, and grandchildren Megan, Miles and Mason; a son and his wife, Jeff and Denise Fuhrman of Jordan, Minn., and grandchildren Alexis and Carter; a son, Jason Fuhrman and Jenni of Chaska, Minn.; a great-granddaughter, Kaleigh Gravenish, daughter of Megan; his mother, Doreen Fuhrman of Cherokee; two sisters, Gayle Messerole of Orange City, Iowa, and Jeannette Grant and her husband, Bob, of Cherokee; a brother, Gerald Fuhrman of Cherokee; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Fuhrman; two sisters, Janet in infancy and Janice Fuhrman; a brother-in-law, Ronald "Tiny" Messerole; his grandmother, Iva Witcombe; and an especially fond uncle, Wayne B. Witcombe.
