GONE TO HER REWARD

Death of Mrs. Mary E. Butler

[The Pecatonica, Illinois, News contains the following account of the death of an aunt of the late Dr. M.S. Butler. The lady was a resident of Cherokee a number of years ago and will be remembered by many of our readers.]

“Grandma” Butler, that kind-hearted, noble old lady who has made her home with daughter, Mrs. Dr. Jordan, for many years, passed away at 6:30 p.m., on Thursday, of paralysis, following an attack of la grippe, aged 73 years and 4 days.

She was attached with the dread disease which resulted in her death about two weeks ago, and grew weaker and weaker, her entire body becoming paralyzed and she passed away peacefully and calmly as if entering upon a sweet sleep as indeed it proved—that eternal sleep which knows no waking.

The maiden name of the deceased was Mary E. Whittlesey and she was born at Browntown, Ohio, April 14, 1822, and married Dr. Butler who died at Newburg, Ohio, in 1856. They had three children, Mrs. Dr. Jordan being the only one now living.

She was a consistent Christian woman, possessing many noble traits of character, was loved and respected by all who knew her, and died as she has lived, with faith in a blessed immortality beyond the grave, where a home has been prepared for those who prove faithful to the end.

The funeral will be held at the residence of Dr. Jordan this Saturday afternoon at 2:30, Rec. M.E. Dix, pastor of the M.E. church conducting the services, after which the remains will be laid to rest in the village cemetery to sleep till the morning of the resurrection.
