Joseph Schmidt Dies Suddenly at His Home in Rock
Another well-known and highly respected citizen of Rock township has passed to the great beyond. Joseph Schmitz* died at his home on Saturday, June 1, 1895, about 12 o’clock (noon) aged 63 years 5 months. He had been ailing somewhat for a number of years, but the sickness which resulted in his death was of short duration and his death sudden and unexpected.
The deceased was a native of Wisconsin and came to Cherokee about eighteen years ago. He reared a large family, nine of whom, together with his wife, survive him. Four of his children are married. He was a solider in the war of the rebellion and had but recently been granted a pension. The funeral occurred on Monday at 10 o’clock, the remains being interred in the Sheridan cemetery.

In the same edition:Joseph Schmidt died at his home last Saturday and was buried in the Catholic cemetery Monday. He is an old resident of Rock and respected by all his neighbors, who now extend their sympathy to the afflicted wife and children.
