Edward N. Schmitt, 75, of 20411 140th St., died Sunday (Nov. 17, 1996) at his home.

Edward was born near Marble Rock on Feb. 20, 1921, to Matt Sr. and Catherine (Merfeld) Schmitt. He attended school through the eighth grade at Roseville. He was honorably discharged from the United States Navy after serving one tour of duty during World War II. On Feb. 7, 1948, he was united in marriage to Pauline Quade in Roseville.

Edward's life revolved around his family and farming. He particularly enjoyed raising registered Hereford cattle and going to farm auctions. He spent his spare time reading. He was a member of American Legion Post 208.

Edward is survived by his five daughters, Mrs. Ralph (Janice) Brighton of Highlands Ranch, Colo., Mrs. Rod (Trish) Bean of Johnston, Mrs. Al (Marlene) Paulus of Chillicothe, Mo., Dianne Schmitt of Joilet, Ill., and Kathleen Schmitt of Omaha, Neb.; four sons, Gary (Jeannette) Schmitt of Rockwell, Mike Schmitt of Rockwell, Jim Schmitt of Omaha, Neb., and Leroy (Beth) Schmitt of Rockwell; one sister, Mrs. Phil (Steela) Fuller of Florida; one brother, Bernard (Lillian) Schmitt of Charles City; two sisters-in-law, Lorraine Schmitt of Sumner and Lillian Schmitt of Mason City; two brothers-in-law, Nick Brunner of Marble Rock and Keith Harrison of Riceville; and 16 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Pauline on June 22, 1996; one sister, Catherine, in infancy; one sister, Christina; three brothers, Matt Jr., Raymond and Mark; and one grandson, Andrew Bean.

Funeral services are set for 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Stephen Meyer. Interment will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Cemetery. Fullerton Funeral Home of Rockwell is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will begin after 4 p.m. today with a rosary service at 7 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Parish Hall.
