Mason City, Cerro Gordo County, IowaMargaret J. Peters “Peg”, 72, of Lakewood, Colorado died on Tuesday, May 20, 2008, at Brighton Gardens following a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease.
A graveside service for Peg will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, May 31, 2008, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Rockwell, with Reverend Michael Schueller officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126-3rd Street NE, Mason City.
Margaret was born on July 6, 1935, in Marshalltown, Iowa to the late E.E. and Ruth Growney. Mrs. Peters was a dedicated member of St. Bernadette Catholic Parish where she actively volunteered her time as an educator and administrative assistant for more than 30 years. An Avid sports fan, Mrs. Peters rarely missed attending a Broncos home game and did her part to cheer on the Nuggets and Rockies as well. She loved children and was a committed humanitarian. She was personally moved by the plight of wartime orphans in Vietnam during the 1970’s and worked as an administrative volunteer placing more than three hundred orphaned children in U.S. homes.
Mrs. Peters is survived by her husband of 49 years Jerry; her five daughters, Amy Peters, Sara Sawyer, Polly Wagner, Jenny (PJ) Peters, and Mia Murray; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild, all in the Denver metro area, her brother Robert Growney who lives in Waterloo, Iowa, as well as many extended family members and friends.
Her brother, Louis Growney of Portland, Oregon, and sister Maureen Lauterbach of Cedar Falls, Iowa preceded her in death.
