Mason City, Cerro Gordo County, IowaROCKWELL - Vincent M. Murphy, 66, of 115 Elm St., Rockwell, died Sunday (July 1, 1990) at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Mason City.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rockwell, with Father Steven Meyer officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation is after 1 p.m. today at Sacred Heart Parish Center. There will be a prayer service at 4:30 p.m. today, a parish wake service at 7 tonight, and a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7:30 tonight, all at the Parish Center.
Mr. Murphy was born Nov. 21, 1923, in Ada, Minn., to John and Rose (O'Rielly) Murphy. He attended St. Patrick's School at Dougherty, graduating in 1941.
He was engaged in farming all of his life, south of Cartersville and the Dougherty area. He married Marcile Koppen on June 8 1950, at Rockwell. He retired from farming in 1988, and he is remembered for enjoying the time spent with his family and friends.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and Dougherty Elevator Board. He was a trustee of St. John's Catholic Church, Cartersville.
Survivors include his wife, Marcile, Rockwell, one daughter, Mrs. Edward (Lorena) Gaffney, Swaledale; two sons Thomas Murphy, Dougherty, and Eugene, Mason City; three sisters, Mrs. Al (Mary) Merfeld, Belmond; Mrs. Clark (Maurice) Dougherty, Dougherty, and Sister Mary Ellen, Algona; four brothers, Walter, Rockwell; Edward and Francis, both of Mason City, and James, Dougherty; and five grandchildren, Terra, Sarah and Angela Gaffney; Josie and Devin Murphy.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Father Joseph Murphy.
