Thursday, March 12, 1964George M. Tibbits, 71, retired farmer of the Rock Falls area, died Wednesday afternoon in a Mason City hospital. He had lived in the Rock Falls and Mason City area since 1913 and made his home at 922 Polk NW.
Mr. Tibbits was born Sept. 11, 1892, in Floyd County, son of Malcom and Ida (Skelton) Tibbits. He was married to Helen Morse, March 2, 1920. They began farming near Rock Falls and lived there until retirement in October of 1946, when they moved to Mason City.
In June, 1953, they moved to Gaylord, Minn., where they were managers of a Good Samaritan Home. In 1959 they returned to Mason City to make their home.
Mr. Tibbits was a veteran of World War I, having served in the U.S. Army; He was a charter member of American Legion Post 449, Nora Springs, in which he still held membership. He also was vice commander of World War I Veterans Barracks, Mason City, at the time of his death.
Mr. Tibbits was a member of the Mason City Garden Club, a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Mason City, and the brotherhood and the Friendship Club of the church.
Surviving are his wife, a son, Morse Tibbits, Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Mrs. Ralph (Ida Rose) Scholl, Rockwell; Three grandsons, Douglas Tibbits, Arlington Heights, Illinois; Fred Tibbits, Cedar Rapids, and Mark Scholl, Rockwell, and two granddaughters, Debra Tibbits, Cedar Rapids, and Cheryl Scholl, Rockwell.
Five sisters, Mrs. G. H. (Addie) Brierly, Nora Springs; Emma Bass, Rudd; Mrs. Paul (Felia) Bistline, Plymouth; Mrs. Darren (Gertrude) Sanford, Nora Springs, and Opal Squire, Gaylord, Minn.; and two brothers; William Tibbits, Qear Lake, and Harold (Curly) Tibbits, Jonesburg, MO., also survive.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Roger in 1953 and Roland in 1923, and a sister and two brothers.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete. Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Friday at the Hogan-McKee Colonial Chapel. [Interment was made at Rock Falls Cemetery, Rock Falls, Iowa.]
