7 Children Mourn Rock Falls Mother; Funeral on Sunday

The Rev. Galbreth will have charge of the funeral services for Mrs. Katherina Mitchell Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment will be made at the Rock Falls cemetery.

The death of Mrs. Katherina Shindler Mitchell at 2:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon was not unexpected as Mrs. Mitchell had been in failing health for some months.

Katherina Shindler was born on Nov. 25, 1840 in Canton Glarus, Switzerland. When a little child she came to America with her parents, settling in Wisconsin.

In 1858 she was united in marriage with Thomas Mitchell. Ten children were born to them, the two oldest dying in infancy. The youngest daughter, Mrs. Stella Zellar, passed beyond on December 17, 1918. Those left to sorrow at a mother's passing are: Mrs. Elizabeth Hollister, Clear Lake; Mrs. Mary Bontly, Monticello, Green Co., WI.; Mrs Agnes Oleson, Houston, Texas; Mrs. Clara Sawyer, Clear Lake; Mrs. Kate Olden, Rock Falls; Mrs Edith Stanley, Rock Falls and her only son Thomas Mitchell of Swea City.

Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell lived in Monticello, Green Co., WI. till 1884 when they moved to Clear Lake. In 1898 they came to Rock Falls. Mr. Mitchell died on November 3, 1912. Since then Mrs. Mitchell has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Olden, visiting at intervals her other children.

Mrs. Mitchell had lived to see the transition of Wisconsin and Iowa from virgin prairies to wonderful farms and homes. She knew all the privations of pioneer life--had suffered and endured many hardships, through it all developing a most lovable disposition and character. Her faith was strong in the love of God and His Goodness. She left many messages of love for her children and friends.
