MASON CITY - Raymond J. Gruben, 68, Route 2, Mason City, died unexpectedly at home Thursday (Sept. 11, 1980).

Services will be [at] 1:30 p.m. Monday at Bethlehem Lutcheran Church, Mason City, the Rev. Frederick J. Wood and the Rev. E.W. Wuggazer, pastors, officiating.

Burial will be in Rock Falls Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m.Sunday until noon Monday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, Mason City.

Mr. Gruben moved to Garner from Illinois with he family when a small child. He married Alice I. Kahler July 15, 1934, at Mason City. The couple farmed for a number of years near Portland, Doughterty, and again near Portland. They moved to a farm in the Plymouth-Rock Falls area, where they farmed for 25 years.

They retired in 1975.

Mr. Gruben was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, the Rock Falls Garden Club, the Rock Falls Senior Citizens, and the Rock Falls Neighborhood Card Club. He was also a trustee of Rock Falls Township, served on the Portland Board of Education, and served two terms on the board of the Portland Elevator Association.

Survivors include his wife, Alice; two daughters, Mrs. Alfred (Shirley) Burke, Rock Falls, and Mrs. Jim (Sharon) White, Tracy, Calif.; three grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and a sister, Mrs. Edna Holzmeier, Mason City.

The family requests any memorials to be given to the Raymond J. Gruben Memorial Fund.
