Donald G. Abrahamson, 77, of Mason City, entered into the kingdom of heaven on Tuesday, May 15, 2012, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit surrounded by his family.

Memorial services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 18, at St. James Lutheran Church, 1148 Fourth St. S.E., with Pastor Paul Nelson officiating. Inurnment will take place in the Rock Falls Cemetery at a later date.

A gathering of friends and family will be held Thursday, 5-7 p.m. at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hospice of North Iowa and St. James Lutheran Church.

Don was born in Story City, on July 14, 1934, the son of Lyle and Sylva (Rullestad) Abrahamson. He graduated from Plymouth High School in 1951 and Mason City Junior College in 1953. He was united in marriage to Janice White on June 10, 1956.

Don served in the United States Military from 1957-1959 at Fort Bragg in Fayetteville, N.C.

After serving his country, he returned to Mason City where he had a long and successful career as an insurance agent for Central Life Assurance Company. After retiring from the insurance business, he followed his passion for cars by working as a car salesman at McKinley Motors in Osage.

While Don enjoyed his career, his family and friends were the most important to him. He enjoyed wintering in Arizona with Jan. When he wasn't on the golf course, he could be found having coffee with friends, walking at the mall, playing cards, and volunteering at the hospital and St. James Lutheran Church, where he was a member for many years. Don enjoyed watching sports and was an arm chair quarterback for the Hawkeyes and Vikings. He was very involved in the lives of his children and grandchildren, and took great joy in spending time with them.

Those left to celebrate his life include his wife, Jan of Mason City; two children, Cindy Wickwire and her husband, Scott, and David Abrahamson and his wife, Stacey, all from Mason City; four grandchildren, Lieh Anne Eriksen and her husband, Brian of Mason City, Jillian Schulte and her husband, Jay of Cedar Rapids, Derek Duffy of Sullivan, Mo., Sean Duffy and girlfriend, Katy Klang of Cedar Rapids; two great-grandchildren, Sylva and Asher Schulte of Cedar Rapids; sister Mary Miles of Ma-son City, brothers Lyle (Zoe)Abrahamson of Rochester, Minn., Stanley (JoAnn) Abrahamson of Hilton Head, S.C., Richard (Jean) Abrahamson of Edmund,Okla., sister-in-law Lucille (Dale) Jackson of Santa Barbara, Calif.; brothers in law, Don (Novella) White of Rock Falls, Jim(Sharon) White of Keaau, Hawaii, and Ray Arickx of St. Ansgar, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Don was welcomed into Heaven by his parents, Lyle and Sylva Abrahamson; mother and father-in-law, Everett and Fern White; brother and sisters in-laws, Rolland Miles, Carol Arickx, Margaret and Mike Byington; special nephew, Steven Abrahamson, and great grandson, Jenner Schulte.
