WHEREABOUTS

Pvt. Wallace SPRINGER, son of Mr. and Mrs. N. L. SPRINGER, 1051 Fourth street southwest, is now stationed in North Africa. He has been overseas one year, going to Africa from Ireland. Private SPRINGER left Mason City with the National Guards in Feb. 1941.

Private in 34th Division Killed in Action in Italy

Pvt. Wallace R. SPRINGER, son of Mr. and Mrs. Neal L. SPRINGER, 1051 4th S. W., was killed in action in Italy on June 26, according to a telegram from the war department received Thursday.

"The secretary of war desires me to express his deep regret that your son, Pvt. Wallace R. SPRINGER, was killed in action on June 26 in Italy," stated the telegram signed by the adjutant general. It also went on to say that a letter would follow.

Pvt. SPRINGER had last written on June 18 and at that time had said that he had been in a hospital, but whether he was there for wounds received or a physical check up before going on the battlefield was not mentioned.

A member of the 34th division, Pvt. SPRINGER had been overseas since February, 1942, having gone with the 2nd contingent of the AEF to Ireland and continued with his company to England, Africa and Italy. He left Mason City with the national guard in 1941 and had his last furlough in October of that year.
