Mr. and Mrs. Charles S. RANKIN, Sr., 823 Twelfth street northeast, have received word that their son, Charles S. RANKIN, Jr., has been transferred from the air base at Nashville, Tenn., to the base at Santa Ana, Cal. He entered the service Jan. 16, 1943. His wife is making her home with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John T. WEBER, 203 Twenty-first street southeast.

ON SECOND LAP

Cadet Charles S. RANKIN, Jr., is on the second lap of his training as a pilot in the U. S. army air forces. The son of Mr. and Mrs. C. S. RANKIN, 823 Twelfth street northeast, he started his course at Nashville, Tenn. where he reported Jan. 16, 1943. Upon classification, he went to Santa Ana, Cal., for pre-flight training. He was recently sent to Eagle field, Dos Palos, Cal., for primary work. Cadet RANKIN is a graduate of the Mason City high school after which he was associated with his father in business.

Mr. and Mrs. C. S. RANKIN, 823 Twelfth street northeast received word that their son, Aviation Cadet Charles S. RANKIN, Jr., has been graduated from primary training at Eagles field, Dos Palos, Cal. He is now stationed at Merced army flying school, Merced, Cal.

Mrs. Andrew FRELUND and son, Charles, 726 1st S. W., and Mr. and Mrs. C. S. RANKIN, 823 12th N. E., have returned from Columbia, S. Car., where they visited their brother and son, Lt. Charles S. RANKIN, Jr., who is completing his training as a pilot of a B-25 Mitchell bomber at the Columbia army air base. Lt. RANKIN'S wife, formerly Miss Marjorie M. WEBER, returned to Mason City with them and will make her home with her mother, Mrs. John T. WEBER, 203 21st S. E.. for the duration.

Lt. Rankin Is Awarded Air Medal

Lt. Charles S. RANKIN, Jr., has been awarded the air medal in recognition of courageous service, according to a letter sent by his commanding general in the southwest Pacific to Lt. RANKIN'S wife here.

The letter to Mrs. RANKIN stated that her husband had "performed courageous service to his combat organization, his fellow American airmen, his country, his home and to you."

Lt. RANKIN is a pilot of a B-25 Mitchell bomber and according to the last letter received by his wife he has had 42 missions and has been made flight leader.

Mrs. RANKIN and son, Ronald, age 9 months, whom Lt. RANKIN has not yet seen, live with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John T. WEBER, 203 21st St. The lieutenant's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Charles RANKIN, 823 12th N. E.

Lt. RANKIN, Jr., MISSING in ACTION OVER BORNEO

Pilot of 45 Missions Was Recently
Awarded Air Medal and Cluster

Second Lt. Charles S. RANKIN, Jr., pilot of a B-25 Mitchell bomber, has been missing in action over Borneo since May 2, according to a message from the war department received by his wife at 203 21st S. E.

Last letters Mrs. RANKIN received from her husband indicated that he had been on 46 missions, had been made flight leader, and had been awarded the air medal with the oak leaf cluster added.

Lt. RANKIN has been overseas since last August, first landing in Hawaii. He entered the service in January, 1943.

Lt. RANKIN'S wife and son, Ronald, 9 months, whom Lt. RANKIN has not seen, live at the home of her mother at the above address. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles S. RANKIN, Sr., 823 12th N. W. He has 4 sisters, Mrs. Andrew FRELUND, Mrs. Marjorie LANE, Mrs. Leonard HANSON, all of Mason City, and Mrs. D. PIERCE of Clear Lake.

Lt. RANKIN MEMORIAL SERVICE SUNDAY at TRINITY LUTHERAN

The Rev. A. N. Rogness in Charge of Rites
Scheduled at 4 p. m.

Memorial services for Lt. Charles S. RANKIN, Jr. Will be held at the Trinity Lutheran church Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock with the Rev. Alvin N. ROGNESS, pastor of the church, in charge.

Lt. RANKIN, originally reported missing in action over Borneo on May 2, 1945, was recently declared by the war department as to have been killed in that action.

RANKIN is survived by his wife and 20 months old son, Ronald; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. S. RANKIN, 823 12th N. E.; 4 sister: Mrs. Andrew FRELUND, Mrs. Marjorie LANE, of Mason City; Mrs. Leonard HANSON, Garner, and Mrs. D. PIERCE, Clear Lake.
