Peter EWEN, second son of Peter and Mary EWEN, was born in Germany on February 7, 1866, and passed away at the home of his brother Jacob EWEN on his 68th birthday, February 7, 1934. He was 14-years-old when the family came to America and has lived in this community for the greater part of his life.

Mr. EWEN was keenly interested and well informed in Democratic politics, having served on various democratic committees for many years. He lived for a number of years in his home on South Main Street, but finally was forced to give up living alone because of ill health.

Death was caused by a complication of diseases, chief of which were asthma and heart disease. For many months he was unable to lie down, suffering intensely from shortness of breath.

Mr. and Mrs. Jacob EWEN and family merit commendation for the excellent care given him in their home during his illness.

Funeral services were held by Rev. Father COLLINS in St. Patrick's Church in Dougherty. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Surviving him are his brother, Jacob, living west of town, and Andrew, living near Charles City, and many nieces and nephews

NOTE: Peter EWEN Sr. was born December 6, 1832, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany, the son of Fredrich and Catharine (STEIN) EWEN. Peter and his first wife Mary were married in Prussia and had two sons, John (married Helena LUCKEN) and Peter who never married. Mary died in 1867, Duppenweiler, Rheinland, Germany. Peter Sr. married second to Johanna KUHN and had four children. The family departed from Wurttemburg, Germany aboard the ship Nederland and arrived in New York city on May 14, 1880. The family settled on an Iowa farm. Peter Sr. died June 16, 1907, Doughterty, Iowa, and was interred at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Roseville, Floyd County, Iowa. Johanna (KUHN) EWEN was born February 22, 1838, Germany, and died March 16, 1923, Doughtery, Iowa. She was interred at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery beside Peter Sr.
