BETHESDA, Maryland- Donald Roy Bailey, 77, of Bethesda, Md., died Sept. 27, 1999, at Mariner Health of Bethesda, of Giant Cell Arteritis.
Rapp Funeral Services, 933 Gist Ave., Silver Springs, Md. was in charge of arrangements.
He was born in Rockwell, Iowa, April 19, 1922 to Harrison and Mary Rosella (Sears) Bailey, the youngest of 10 children.
His family moved to Mason City when he was a preschooler.
Don Bailey graduated from Mason City High School.
Following World War II, he earned a bachelors degree in English and journalism from the University of Wichita in 2 1/2 years.
Following this he earned a masters degree in public administration from the University of Kansas.
Mr. Bailey had a career in government service as
an assistant city manager of Hutchinson, Kan.
a manager in the Atomic Energy Commission, Schenectady, N.Y.
and a management analyst in the District of Columbia Government Department of Finance and Revenue
During World War II, Donald Bailey was in the United States Navy in the Asiatic Pacific Theater as a naval aviator.
He was honorable discharged from the United States Naval Reserve on March 25, 1952, as a Lt. J.G.
He was a past president of Isack Walton League of America, Bethesda Chevy Chase Chapter and a past president and state director of IWLA Md.
He was a past president of Chapter 238 of the Association of Retired Federal Employees.
Mr. Bailey was a member of the Mason Blue Lodge and Eastern Star.
Surviving Donald in death are:
his wife of 55 years, Armand Bailey
one son, Brian Douglas Bailey
three sisters
Goldie Fern Boyd, of Mason City
Beulah Mae Eppens, of Mason City
Elizabeth Sarah Little, of Dallas, Texas
and many nieces and nephews
