Des Moines John C. Proctor, 77, of 4325 N.E. 29th St., Des Moines, formerly of Ventura, died Thursday (April 16, 1998) at Mercy Hospital, Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., with the Rev. Fred Lewis of the Clear Lake United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Clear Lake Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Clear Lake V.F.W.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral chapel and again one hour prior to services on Monday.

John Charles Proctor was born March 1, 1921 at Clear Lake, the son of John W. and Allie (Steenhard) Proctor.

He served in the United States Army during World War II and was stationed in Normandy, France during the war.

On Oct. 22, 1949, he married Lora Klaassen at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

John loved to fish and especially enjoyed spending time with his kids and his grandkids. He liked to kid and joke with people, and he genuinely loved life.

He was a member of the Clear Lake V.F.W

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Lora Proctor, Des Moines; four children, Jean Wilson and her husband, Frank, of Des Moines; Julie Reins and her husband, Carroll, Carlisle; Lora Jean Moore and her husband, Charles, Boone; and John Proctor Jr. and his wife, Shelly, Perry; eight grandchildren, Susan, Bill and John Wilson, all of Des Moines, Lora Reins, Carlisle; Joshua and Jason Moore, both of Boone; Ryan and Amber Proctor, both of Perry; two sisters, Wilma Young and Ann Ward, both of Clear Lake; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Clara Brown and Betty Hall; five brothers, George, Tom, Harold, Vern and Allan Proctor.
