Fatal Accident at Mason City.
Gazette:—A very sad accident, the result of children being allowed to handle fire-arms, occurred at the home of Mr. G. G. Ross, on Miller st. A little 14-year-old brother of Mr. Ross was showing his mother, Mrs. Julia A. Tilden, about a 22 BB caps revolver, when it accidentally discharged, striking Mrs. Tilden in the right breast. The ball pierced into the right lung, and the pain was intense, accompanied by considerable suppuration. Dr. Egloff and Marston were at once called and gave the sufferer every attention. Her condition was hopeful until Monday evening, when she began to fail, and expired on Tuesday morning. Mrs. Tilden made the statement before she died that the shooting was accidental and exonerated her son from all blame.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows she was born in 1845 and died Sept. 24, 1895. She is buried in Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery.
