Fred W. "Fritz" Wasicek, 73, of 2206 S. Jefferson Ave., died Monday (June 10, 1996) at home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Kathy Graves, chaplain of Hospice of North Iowa, officiating. Burial will be at the Bohemian Cemetery, Plymouth, with a flag folding ceremony conducted by the Mason City Veterans Association.

Visitation will be held from noon until time of services Thursday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave.

Memorials may be given to the Fred W. "Fritz" Wasicek Memorial Fund.

Fred W. "Fritz" Wasicek was born Sept. 21, 1922, in Plymouth, the son of Emil and Helen (Tosel) Wasicek. He attended school in Mason City. Fritz served in the United States Navy during World War II. He married Laurine Barney on Oct. 19, 1941, in Mason City. Fritz was co-owner of Mason City Glass & Paint for over 30 years.

He enjoyed playing the drums for various band. His own band, "The Dude Ranchers" performed weekly on the KGLO-TV Barn Dance. Fritz also enjoyed fishing and he sponsored a slow pitch softball team for a number of years. He was a member of the VFW, Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. #375, Eagles Lodge and the American Federation of Musicians l #567.

Survivors include his wife, Laurine, of Mason City; three sons, Dennis Wasicek and his wife, Margery, of Mason City; Damon Wasicek and his wife, Jeannett, of Mason City, and Donald Wasicek of Manly; grandchildren, Christine, Kimberly and Tony Wasicek of Mason City, Kelli and Jennifer Wasicek of Forest City; and one great-grandchild, Alexa Wasicek of Mason City.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, David Wasicek.
