Obituary for Shirley A. Caberea

Shirley A. Caberea, 74 of 1026 N. Taylor Ave. Mason City who died Thursday, November 5, 2020 at Mercy One Mason City.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at Epiphany Parish, Holy Family, 714 N. Adams, Mason City. Officiating will be Father Josh Link. Visitation will be from 5 until 8:00 pm, Monday at Fullerton Funeral Home, 123, 2nd ST SE. A parish rosary will be held at 7:00 pm followed by a vigil service. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery. Masks and social distancing will be required during visitation and at the funeral. The funeral will also be live streamed from the church. Shirley was born on May 30, 1946 in Coalport, Iowa. She was a daughter of Harold and Myra (Valentine) Rankin. She graduated from Monroe High School. She then attended NIACC and Buena Vista with a degree in Business Managemaent. She was united in marriage to Thomas Caberea on June 26, 1972 in Sioux Falls, SD. To this union was born two sons. Shirley was employed by Federal Upholstery as a seamstress for many years. This also carried into her home life sewing many items for family and friends. She also worked for the Credit Bureau and was a manager of Merry Maids. Most of all, being a mom and grandma was her favorite “job” of all. Shirley very much loved to cook and bake. She was a talker and loved laughing with family and a multitude of friends. Another joy was her Yorkshire terrier babies, Gypsi, Callie, Malachi and Baby Gypsi. Shirley loved to go to Casinos.

Shirley is survived by her two sons Dimitri and Dominic Caberea, daughter Michelle and two step-daughters, Teresa Haroutunian and Margaret Jamaica, one step-son, Tom Jr Caberea. Grandchildren Antonio and Joanna Caberea, Jammy Klinner, Sabrina Choi, Frankie, Eric, and, Chantal Jamaica, Avo, Vasken, and Lisa Haroutunian, Israel Cabrera, and Romel Cabrera, and Jael (Josh) Kuster, and 16 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters Darlene Palm of Knoxville, IA, Margaret Ball (Phil) of Garland TX, Carolyn Rankin of Omaha NE, brothers Dean (Janice) Rankin and Jerald (Celeste) of Knoxville, IA, Brother-in-laws Al Brungardt of Newton IA and Larry Nicholson of Knoxville, IA, many nephews and nieces and great nieces and nephews with Jenni being her "favorite niece," and her special friend Mindy.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Harold and Myra Rankin, husband Thomas in October 2014, Stepsons Salvador and Thomas, Sisters Judy Brungardt, Faye Nicholson, Bobbi Ford, and brother Chuck Rankin.
