Clarence was born in Rockwell, the son of John and Lena Oetken. He attended the Rockwell High School and worked with his father on the farm, which became his lifetime work. He served on the Hurley Elevator and Stockyard Board. He played softball and was on the Hurley Sluggers baseball team.
Clarence was united in marriage to Ruth E. Grummon on July 11, 1943, at the First Baptist Church in Rockwell.
Clarence trusted Christ as his personal Savior at approximately twelve years of age. His love for the Lord was evident in his daily walk, conversation and manner of living. He faithfully attended church and took an active role by serving as Deacon and Sunday School teacher for over 40 years. He also served as a board member for the Midwest Evangelistic Association.
In his spare time he loved to hunt pheasants, quail, ducks and rabbits with his fall hunts being near Burlington, IA. He and his family enjoyed trips to Yellowstone, the Black Hills, and Pensacola, Florida. He loved fall fishing trips to Turtle Lake near Marcel, MN.
Clarence, during his one hundred years on earth, was a man who never looked back and was always adapting to change. He was patriotic to the core and always flew the American flag at home.
