Gilbert Koehler, 87, of Meservey, died Wednesday (Jan. 17, 1996) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Salem United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Gochenouer officiating. Burial will be in the Meservey Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at 3 p.m. today at the Grarup Funeral Home.

Gilbert Koehler was born on Sept. 11, 1908, on the family farm northwest of Meservey. He was the son of William and Laura (Vietmeier) Koehler. He attended country school and the Meservey Consolidated School system. Following school he began farming with his father and brothers.

He was united in marriage to Ruth Kielsmeier on June 15, 1947, in Charles City. They made their home in the Meservey area farming.

In 1973 he retired from farming and in 1978 they built a new home in Meservey and moved into town. Gil enjoyed playing cards, traveling and watching the Minnesota Twins.

He is survived by his daughter, Marlene Koehler of Denver, Colo.; and his son, Wayne Koehler and his wife, Val, of Meservey; three grandsons, Shawn, Brandon and Matthew Koehler of Meservey; three sisters, Viola Bredlow of Garner, Edna Lauen of Belmond, and Mildred Hammond of Austin, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; parents; and three brothers.
