Court Room is Scene of Murder.
Mason City, Ia., Oct 27.— Judge W. S. Rankin’s court was turned into a veritable battlefield shortly after the noon hour today.
Rex Kiffling and Rob Cable were under arrest for stealing, and Kiffling was giving evidence when Kiffling made the statement that he secured the gun he was carrying from Cable. The latter whipped out a revolver and shot him through the abdomen. Instantly fire was opened upon Cable by Chief Locke and Patrolman Spaight and Detective Ed Smith, of Sioux City.
When Cable fell he opened fire, shooting at all three of the officers, but missing.
Cable was shot through the left lung. Kiffling will die, and Cable is in a serious condition. Cable is thirty years of age; Kiffling is seventeen. Last night Cable held three officers at bay with his gun and made his escape, but was picked up this morning.
