Killed by a Locomotive.
Monona Leader— Charles Holman, engineer on the I. & D. division of the C. M. & St. P. R’y was killed in the North McGregor yards Tuesday morning, December. 17, at 7:30 o’clock. He was on the track and stepped back on a parallel track while his engine passed. As he did so, a freight engine (which he did not notice) backed up, striking him and knocking him down, dragging his body along the track for a piece. He was injured on the arms, shoulders and on the head, undoubtedly he was instantly killed. His body was taken in charge by the Brotherhood of Engineers, and shipped to his home in Mason City by the midnight train. Mr. Holman was born in Rossville, Allamakee county, and was about 40 years of age. His mother resides near Rockwell, Iowa, and he leaves a widow and three sons.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he is buried in Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery in Mason City and was born Oct. 12, 1858.
