FREDERICK J. MULHERN

Mason City - Frederick Junior Mulhern, 84, of 1221 South Washington died Sunday, July 1, 2007, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, July 6, 2007, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 302 5th Street S.E., with Reverend Kenneth Gehling officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, with full military honors conducted by members of the Mason City Veteran's Memorial Association.

Visitation will be held Thursday from 5-7 P.M. with a scriptural wake service at 6:30 P.M. at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd Street N.E., Mason City.

Frederick Junior Mulhern was born March 1, 1923, in Worth County, Deer Creek Township, the son of Frederick Henry and Allie May (Veverka) Mulhern. He graduated from Mason City High School. Fred was united in marriage to Alice Grein on June 21, 1942, in Albert Lea; to this union four children were born. Fred enlisted into the United States Navy September 16, 1942 and was honorably discharged December 15, 1945. He worked for International Harvester retiring after 33 years. After retirement he worked 13 years for Hy-Line Hatchery in maintenance.

Fred enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and he was an avid sports fan. His greatest love was spending time with family and friends. Fred was a member of the VFW and St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

Fred is survived by his wife of 65 years, Alice Mulhern, Mason City; children, Priscilla Pappas, Mason City, Tina (Robert) Hudspeth, Forest City, Mick (Terri) Mulhern, Urbandale; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Colleen Seel, Des Moines; dog Furby; cat Muffy; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Fred is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Karrie Willier, sons-in-law, George Pappas and Ron Riser; brother, Marvin Mulhern and sister, Mildred Roth.
