Thursday, November 30, 2017CEDAR RAPIDS, IA --- Patricia “Pat” Dunkel, 63, devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, neighbor and friend, died peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family and embraced in loving prayers on Monday, November 27, 2017 following a courageous battle with cancer. A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 1, 2017 at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, with a visitation beginning at 10:00 AM at the church.
Pat is survived by her beloved husband Rick of Cedar Rapids, IA; children, Tim (Liz) Tesar of Norwalk, IA; Mindy (Matt) Thornton of Center Point, IA; three grandchildren, Theodore Tesar, Jensen and Jemma Thornton; her mother, Kathryn Douglas of Mason City, IA; five siblings, Jean (Dennis) McMenimen of Cedar Rapids, IA; Deb (Jody) Istas of Omaha, NE; Bob (Pam) Douglas of Des Moines, IA; Mike (Lynne) Douglas of Fairfax, VA; and Tom (Erin) Douglas of Mason City, IA; mother-in-law, Ruth Dunkel of Port St. Lucie, FL; and several loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert; father-in-law, Ernest and her sons, Mark and Benjamin.
Pat was born May 30, 1954 in Mason City, Iowa. She was the daughter of Robert and Kathryn (Makris) Douglas. She graduated from Newman High School in Mason City. Pat was a financial advisor for over 30 years, retiring from RBC Wealth Management. She married Rick Dunkel on September 4, 1992 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Pat loved to cook, travel and entertain friends at her home. Her greatest joy in life was the time spent with her beloved family and friends. Pat's memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her. She is gone too soon, and will be missed.
