CLEAR LAKE — Mrs. Florence H. Dodd, 85, of 200 15th Ave. S., Clear Lake, died Thursday (Feb. 12, 1998) at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Donald Simmonds, Chaplain of Hospice of North Iowa, officiating. Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m. Monday at the Mamre Cemetery, Stanton, Iowa, with the Rev. Dannett John of Taber Lutheran Church, officiating. Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, and one hour prior to services on Monday.

The family suggests memoriaols to the Florence H. Dodd Memorial Fund.

Florence was born Feb. 19, 1912 in Stanton, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Wilma (Hult) Burke. She attended school in Stanton and then continued her education on the community college.

Florence married Kenneth Veele who was a bank examiner, so they lived in many areas of the United States due to his occupation.

Florence married George Dodd on March 4, 1972 at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Mason City, Iowa. They farmed northeast of Clear Lake, Iowa, until their retirement in 1983. After retirement, they moved into Hanlontown. They enjoyed spending the winters in Mission, Texas. In the fall of 1997, they made their residence in Clear Lake.

Florence enjoyed traveling, bird watching, camping. She was a member of a bird club in Cedar Falls, Iowa and the Good Sam Club.

Florence is survived by her husband, George Dodd, Clear Lake, Iowa; two stepchildren, Byron Dodd and his wife, Bonnie, Plymouth, Iowa and Darlene Butner and her husband, Robert Jr., Clear Lake, Iowa; one sister, Fern Cling, Phoenix, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Kenneth Veele; two brothers, Ervin and Elmer Burke; and one sister, Mable Burke Gabrielson.
