MASON CITY --- Bruce E. Abben, 52 of Mason City passed away on Wednesday, December 5th, 2018 at Mercy Medical Center Mason City.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in 2019. Inurnment will be held in the Little Cedar Cemetery during the same time as the celebration of life.

Bruce E. Abben was born on March 23 1966 in Riceville, Iowa. Son of Millard (Bud) & Dixie Abben. Bruce attend Osage High School and North Iowa Community College. He specialized in Heating,Ventilation and Cooling (HVAC). He worked at Tonka Coolers. McNeilus Inc., Allen Industrial Inc. where he was supervisor until his health declined and retired.

Bruce had a son, Nicholas after HS. Later he met Patricia M. Vajgert, married December 1987, together they had two sons, Adam and Travis and one daughter Ashley. They later divorced.

Bruce struggled with Substance Use disorder in which he served 10 yrs in Prison. After he was released and during his recovery and rehabilitation met Ruth Sandmeyer and resided in Mason City.

Bruce enjoyed working but most of all he enjoyed his family. He enjoyed being a grandpa and telling his kids what to do (that went for anybodies kids). He passed his time by gardening, tinkering with anything that needed to be fixed, wood working, and going junkin. He found great relaxation reading and watching his gold and angel fish.

Bruce is survived by companion, Ruth Sandmeyer, sister, Cheryl Barrett, sons Adam(Laura) Abben, Travis (Maggie) Abben, daughter Ashley (Aaron) Abben. Grandkids, Kaleb, Adrian, Isabella, Lylee, Harper, Isaak (aka Tank) and Quinn (aka seven), and many nieces and nephews and extended family.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, Millard (Bud) & Dixie Abben, brother Jeffrey, son Nicholas Duryee, maternal and paternal grandparents.
