MASON CITY --- Arlene M. Cunningham, 91, of Mason City, IA, died Thursday, August 9, 2018, at the Heritage Care and Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, August 15, 2018, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, with Rev. Dan Gerrietts officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM on Tuesday, August 14, 2018, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue. Interment will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family of Arlene Cunningham. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.majorericksonfuneralhome.com

Arlene was born August 28, 1926, in Ottosen, IA, the daughter of Oscar and Nora (Bakke) Johnson. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1945. On July 23, 1950, she was united in marriage to Warren H. Cunningham in Albert Lea, MN. Arlene was a homemaker who enjoyed spending time with her family – especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed quilting, sewing, fishing, camping, attending baseball games and cheering for Hawkeye Basketball and the Atlanta Braves. She was a member of the Church of Christ of Latter Day Saints and the VFW Auxiliary.

Arlene is survived by 2 daughters: Ezme Palmieri of Mason City and Nora Thomas of Jeffersonville, IN; 6 grandchildren: Elizabeth Smith and husband Trevor of Portland, OR, Emily Smith and husband Joshua of Jeffersonville, IN, Paige Peyton of Mason City, Brent Thomas and wife Jessica of Hyde Park, UT, Mike Palmieri and fiancée Kristina Torres of Mason City, and Sarah Jones and husband Alex of Mason City; 11 great grandchildren; 2 sisters: Corrine Butler and husband Lyle of Mason City and Carol Piippo of Mason City; 2 sisters-in-law: Joyce Johnson of Mason City and Betty Johnson of Northwood, IA; and special family member: Avis Angell of Mason City. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1973; a son in infancy; 3 brothers: Virgil Johnson, Gene Johnson and Robert Johnson; and brother-in-law: Marvin Piippo.
