Carolyn graduated from Wartburg College with a degree in elementary education, upon graduating she taught for numerous school districts in Iowa with her last assignment being in Nora Springs. On August 19, 1961 she was united in marriage to Roger Broers at St. James Lutheran Church in Mason City.
She left teaching to raise her daughters and work with her husband on the family farm. As her daughters grew older, Carolyn followed her love of plants and gardening, working for many years at Blackmore Garden Center in Mason City. In later life she volunteered at the Mercy Hospital gift shop.

She supported her husband through farming and his political career, her daughter's 4H activities and horse shows, and was a devoted supporter of her grandchildren's academic, sport, and musical activities. Carolyn also developed an avid interest in genealogy which led to her passionate involvement with the Daughter's of the American Revolution.

Grandchildren Nathaniel, Alexander and Kendrick Bosch; and Samantha Geddes. Brother: Robert Kellogg and wife Linda; sisters-in-law: Linda Terrano, Jeanette Pruin and husband Robert Pruin; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
