Sunday, October 07, 2018MASON CITY: Carolyn Irene Broers, of Mason City, died Tuesday, October 2, 2018, at her home.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, October 8, 2018, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania Ave, with Rev. Kenneth Gehling Chaplain - Mercy Medical Center of North Iowa officiating. A gathering will be held at Major Erickson Funeral Home Sunday, October 7, 2018, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. Inurnment will take place in Elmwood St. - Joseph Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Carolyn Broers Memorial Fund. Carolyn Irene Broers was born January 3, 1940, in Mason City, Iowa to parents Glenn and Irene (Radunzel) Kellogg. She was raised in rural Clear Lake and attended Clear Lake High School. Carolyn graduated from Wartburg College with a degree in elementary education, upon graduating she taught for numerous school districts in Iowa with her last assignment being in Nora Springs. On August 19, 1961 she was united in marriage to Roger Broers at St. James Lutheran Church in Mason City.
She left teaching to raise her daughters and work with her husband on the family farm. As her daughters grew older, Carolyn followed her love of plants and gardening, working for many years at Blackmore Garden Center in Mason City. In later life she volunteered at the Mercy Hospital gift shop.Those who knew Carolyn will remember her as a kind and loving person who was always there for her family. She supported her husband through farming and his political career, her daughter's 4H activities and horse shows, and was a devoted supporter of her grandchildren's academic, sport, and musical activities. Carolyn also developed an avid interest in genealogy which led to her passionate involvement with the Daughter's of the American Revolution.
Carolyn is survived by her children: Karla Broers and husband Miko Ian Geddes; Deborah (Broers) Bosch and husband Bob Bosch. Grandchildren Nathaniel, Alexander and Kendrick Bosch; and Samantha Geddes. Brother: Robert Kellogg and wife Linda; sisters-in-law: Linda Terrano, Jeanette Pruin and husband Robert Pruin; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents Glenn and Irene Kellogg, husband Roger Broers, and infant son Steven Roger Broers.
