SPOKANE, Wash. — Katherine Garufis Bergeson, 70, of Spokane, Wash., died Sunday (April 18, 2010) in Spokane.

Services will be May 8, in Spokane, Wash. A celebration of her life will be held in June in Minnesota.

Katherine was born Oct. 14, 1939, in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of Anton and Alexandra Garufis. She was raised in Mason City.

“Kewpie” as known to many, was a graduate of the Class of 1957 at Mason City High School.

She married Jim Bergeson Dec. 7, 1963, in Minneapolis, Minn., and they lived in Phoenix, Ariz.; Hibbing, Minn.; Duluth, Minn., and settled in Spokane, Wash.

She was a fun-loving person and will be deeply missed by everyone.

Survivors include her loving and caring husband of 46 years, Jim, of Spokane, Wash.; daughter Christine, and her special friend, Rick, both of Duluth, Minn.; son and daughter-in-law, Boe and Carolann Bergeson, of Chandler, Ariz.; granddaughter, Nicole, of Burnsville, Minn.; sister, Helen Grant, Bloomington, Minn.; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Emmanuel Bikakis, Dakota Dunes, S.D.; brother-in-law, Tom Town, Lakeville, Minn., and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Louise Town, brother-in-law, DeWayne Grant, and nieces, Monica Grant Wulf and Kathy.

Rest in peace Kewpie. We love you.
