Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, with Senior Pastor Jim Magelssen assisted by Father Dennis Cahill officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:30 until 7 p.m. today at the Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E., Mason City, and one hour prior to services at the church. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Dale A. Becker Memorial Fund. Following services his body will be cremated under the care of Fullerton Funeral Home.

Dale was born one of five sons to Alwin and Maureen nee Hanson Becker on March 19, 1931, in LeMars, Iowa. He graduated from LeMars Community Schools in 1949. He continued his education attending Wartburg College and graduating with a B.A. degree in education. In 1959 he received his Masters Degree in Speech and English from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. He taught high school in Buffalo Center, Lake Mills and Clear Lake. Dale joined Mason City Junior College as a professor in 1963 and retired from NIACC in 1997 after 34 years. His love of teaching was reciprocated by appreciative students. While working at NIACC he was instrumental in the design, construction and operations of the beautiful NIACC auditorium.

Dale very much enjoyed his vegetable gardening and was an organic gardener long before it was “cool.” Dale and his brothers enjoyed their annual fishing trips as founding members of the “Fishing and Liars Club.” During his school years he performed magic and balancing acts with his brother as “DALO the Magnificent.” Dale said he would join the circus when he grew up, but he never really grew up. He was a faithful Hawkeye fan, and religiously worked his crossword puzzle each day. His greatest passion in life was his family.

Dale married Elizabeth vonFischer on Aug. 16, 1953, and to this union three children were born. On July 11, 1984, he was united in marriage to Sally O’Harrow in their backyard in Mason City. Twenty years later they renewed their vows once again in the backyard with Father Dennis Cahill, Sally’s cousin. Many will remember Dale’s wit, wisdom and remarkable modesty regarding his achievements.

Dale is survived by his wife, Sally, of 23 years; his faithful companion Tigre; four children: Tim (Sherry) of Mason City, Cynthia (Randy) Reid of Clear Lake, Dan (Julie) of Clear Lake, Sally’s son Kevin (Rachel) Dusold of Rockwell; 11 grandchildren: Ben Becker, Emily (Thomas) Zanios and Zach Becker, Jacob, Elizabeth and Eli Reid, Eric, Megan and Leah Becker, and Sarah and Kyle Dusold; three surviving brothers: Bob of Cleghorn, Lou and Cindy of Iowa City, Ken and Gretchen of Cresco; one “sister” in-law Lorraine Becker of Des Moines; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends, cohorts and students.

His parents; infant grandson Joshua Reid; and one brother, Gene, preceded him in death.
