July 26, 1996MASON CITY -- L. LaVonne Awe, 71, of 302 Second St. N.E., died Wednesday (July 24, 1996) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Fullerton Patterson James Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E., with the Rev. Kenneth Hatland of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. today at the funeral chapel.
LaVonne was born on Dec. 15, 1924, the daughter of Rudolph and Maude (Underwood) Awe. Following her father's death at an early age, she was raised by her mother and stepfather, Earl King.
She was a former employee of North Iowa Vocational Center.
Even though she was never married, she enjoyed spending time with her family and kidding around with her nieces and nephews and all her great-nieces and nephews.
She especially enjoyed taking small jaunts around the countryside and attending Camp Sunnyside in Des Moines. Her athletic abilities garnished her several trophies in bowling with the handicapped league and she attended the Senior Citizens Center regularly and played bingo at Good Shephard where she lived.
LaVonne is survived by her two sisters, Mrs. Jim (Clara) Wilson of Mason City, and Mrs. Russ (Lola) Truax, of Humboldt; 23 nieces and nephews; and many, many great and great-great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by per parents; stepfather; three sisters, Eva Hathaway, Erma Meyer and Geraldine Wike; and three brothers, Ernest, Orville and James Awe.
