MASON CITY --- Louise M. Appelquist, 80, of Mason City, died Thursday (Sept. 14, 2000) at the Good Shepherd Healthcare Center in Mason City.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E. in Mason City, with the Rev. Thomas McAndrew of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manly officiating. Inurnment will be in the Sunset Rest Cemetery in Northwood. Friends may call one hour prior to services on Sunday at the chapel.

According to her wishes her body was cremated.

Louise M. Appelquist was born on Jan. 23, 1920 in Sioux Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Morton and Emma (Soens) Murphy. She attended and received her education in the Emmetsburg School system, graduating from Emmetsburg Catholic High School.

She was united in marriage to Harold J. Appelquist on March 23, 1940. He preceded her in death in 1962. After their marriage, they moved to Northwood and owned and operated Appelquist Grocery Store in Northwood until her husband's death.

After the death of her husband, she lived and worked in Mason City and had spent the last 18 years of her life at the Good Shepherd Healthcare Center in Mason City.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mason City.

Left to cherish her memory are four children, Judy DiMarco and her husband, Gus, of Clear Lake, Jeanne Loberg and her husband, Bill, of Northwood, Jackie Larsen and her husband, Larris, of Chicago, Ill., and David Appelquist, of Northwood; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren three sisters, Cecelia Girres, of Mallard, Carol Schuller and her husband, Mark, of Mallard, and Jeanette Barber and her husband, Rich, of Ruthven; two brothers, Jack Murphy and his wife, Ann, of San Diego, Calif. and M. B. "Turk" Murphy and his wife, Alyce, of Freeport, Ill.; as well as other relatives and friends.

Her parents; husband, Harold J. Appelquist in 1962; a grandson, Ben Loberg in 1987; and a brother, Francis Murphy, preceded her in death.
