Mrs. V. J. Smith Dead.

The people of this community were shocked when it became known that Mrs. V. J. Smith who has been suffering with tuberculosis for some time past, had passed away in the sanitarium at Oakdale Friday morning, June 21, at 2 o'clock.

Miss Nellie Hanley was born in Ireland, October 8, 1872, and was united in marriage to Mr. V. J. Smith Oct. 3, 1900 and at the time of death was 45 years, 8 months and 8 days of age.

The deceased was a true christian woman. She was a member of the Catholic church from childhood and was always true to the faith. She has reared a family of nine children and it is indeed, sad to know that they have been deprived of a mother's care.

Besides her husband and children the deceased leaves to mourn her loss three brothers and two sisters as follows:
Ed Hanley of Greene; Chas. Hanley of Ontario, Canada; John Hanley of Dougherty;
Mrs. R. Richardson of Ontario, Canada and Mrs Mary Flannery of Chicago.

The children who are left to mourn the loss of their mother, are as follows: Frank, Veronica, Margaret, William, Marie, Beatrice, Rozelle, Joseph and Agnes.
All were present at the funeral except Mrs. Flannery of Chicago, and Chas. Hanley of Ontario, Canada.

The funeral services were held at St. Patrick's church Sunday morning at 10 o'clock and were conducted by Rev. Fr. P. D. O'Reilly.
Interment was made in the cemetery adjacent to the church.

The bereaved family have the sympathy of all in their hour of deepest affliction.
