Mason City, Cerro Gordo County, IowaShane L. Collins, 12, the son of Raymond D. and Linda (Williams) Collins of Mason City, accidentally died August 3, 1980. He was driving a small motocycle with his younger brother, Brenden, as a passenger. The boys were riding the bike at a family reunion held in WKW Park near Hampton, IA. They were riding the bike around the outskirts of the park and came out of the park through a road ditch onto the gravel road, directly into the path of a four-wheel drive pick-up truck. The motorcycle was broken in half and the boys were thrown, along with the bike, about 40 feet down the road.
Shane was born October 23, 1967. He was a defenseman in the Mason City Youth Hockey Association. He had played for the team for 3 years and the game had become an integral part of his young life. Sports was an essential part of his nature and it make him tick. In addition, he excelled at track and baseball.
Shane is greatly missed by his parents and grandparents.
[Interment was made at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa.]
