MASON CITY -- Guadalupe “Lupe” Caberea, 84, of Mason City, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at her home.

A funeral mass will be held 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 22, 2014, at Epiphany Parish Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams, with Rev. Neil Manternach, celebrant. Interment will be in Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. A scriptural wake service will be held at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the Guadalupe Caberea Memorial Fund. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.majorericksonfuneralhome.com.

Lupe was born May 10, 1929, in Mexico City, Mexico, the daughter of Pedro and Guadalupe (Acevedo) Legorretta. She came to the United States at the age of 14. Her family settled in Mason City where Lupe attended school. Over the years, starting at the age of 14, she worked at the Coffee Cup, Holy Family Rectory for Msgr. Breen, Frontier Club, Holiday Inn, Park Hospital and later Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in the dietary department for 40 years and later in housekeeping. Lupe was always a family first mother who spent all of her life serving others in the food industry. She retired in 2005. Lupe enjoyed spending time with her family — especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed spending time with her friends (all were welcome at her home), gardening, planting flowers, family gatherings, yard sales, fishing and going to the casino. She was a member of Epiphany Parish Holy Family Catholic Church and Birthday Club.

Lupe is survived by 2 daughters: Hasmeg a.k.a. Teresa Haroutunian of Mason City and Margaret Caberea Jamaica of Mason City; 1 son: Tom Caberea and wife Traci of Des Moines, Iowa; grandchildren: Jammy Klinner and fiancée Maggie Moyer of Minot, North Dakota, and his daughters: Hannah and Abby, and his grandson: Gabe, Sabrina Choi and son: Xander of Arizona, Avo Haroutunian and his children: Salvador, Steven and Sophia all of Mason City, Vasken Haroutunian and wife Sara and their daughter: Piper of Pleasant Hill, Iowa, Lisa Haroutunian and her children: Dylan and Arianna of Mason City, Frankie Jamaica and wife April and their sons: Bradyn and Carter of Owatonna, Minn., Eric Jamaica and wife Jamie and their daughters: Alicia, Aubrey and Mikayla of Mason City, Chantal Jamaica and her daughter: Camila of Mason City, Israel Cabrera of Des Moines, Romel Cabrera and his daughter: Angela of Des Moines, and Jael “Josh” Kuster of Des Moines; 2 great-great-grandchildren on the way; her loving sister: Linda Gomez of Mason City; her life partner of 40 years: Ferris D. Olmsted of Mason City; brother-in-law: Frank Castino and wife Mary of Mason City; and special friends: Stephanie Haroutunian of Mason City and Jennifer Davidson of Humboldt, Iowa. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and her beloved pug: Sadie.

She was preceded in death by her parents; infant son: Thomas; son: Salvador; sister: Lenora Rodriquez; brother: Amelio Legoretta; 2 brothers-in-law: John Gomez and Manuel Rodriquez; and several nephews.
